Book NowLaser Hair Removal for Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) in Chicago
Facial feminization surgery (FFS) often requires facial hair removal to achieve a smooth, feminine appearance, which is why surgeons recommend completing this step beforehand.
At V&P Laser Hair Removal & Skin Care, our technicians specialize in transgender-focused treatments, ensuring sessions are safe, effective, and personalized.
Laser works for most patients, but some hairs may need extra care. Optional electrolysis is available through our electrolysis clinic, Electrolysis 100% Permanent Hair Removal & Skin Care, located under the same roof as V&P. If desired, we can combine laser and electrolysis for complete facial clearance. During your consultation, we’ll explain both methods and recommend the best approach.
We also accommodate any specific guidelines from your surgeon.

Laser Hair Removal for Genital Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS) in Chicago
Genital gender-affirming surgery (GAS) reconstructs the genitals to align with a patient’s identified gender. When hair-bearing tissue is used, it can sometimes lead to postoperative hair growth inside the vagina or urethra, causing irritation, infections, hairballs, or stone formation, and potentially reducing satisfaction with the surgery. For this reason, many surgeons recommend laser hair removal prior to GAS.
At V&P, we have extensive experience providing laser hair removal for patients preparing for surgery. Optional electrolysis is also available for genital area through our electrolysis clinic, Electrolysis 100% Permanent Hair Removal & Skin Care, located under the same roof as V&P. Treatments can be customized to meet each patient’s needs, and during your consultation, we can explain how laser and electrolysis can work together—often starting with laser and finishing with electrolysis for complete clearance.

Treatments take place in your practitioner’s office. Your practitioner will use a small handpiece to deliver an intense but gentle burst of energy onto targeted areas of the skin to remove unwanted hair.
Yes! Many laser hair removal treatments don’t cater to all skin types, but we utilize the GentleMax Pro Plus laser so we can safely treat all skin types and hair textures. Our licensed laser technicians will customize a laser hair removal program that provides you with the safest, most effective results possible.
A treatment can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated.
Some patients may feel slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin.
Multiple treatments are required to achieve the full hair removal effect. The hairs on your body are not always at the same stage, so you’ll need to undergo a few treatments, an average of six to eight weeks apart, to catch them all in the growth stage.
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.
For about six weeks prior to treatment, you should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing. On the day of your treatment, skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed of any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products. Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before your treatment.
Do not expose the treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, a prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for additional comfort after your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve in a few hours.
After your laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your practitioner may advise additional precautions.
Permanent side effects are rare and may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (laser bruise) in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days. Your practitioner will have more information about potential side effects.
