Three things drive the price of laser full body hair removal in Chicago:

• The laser. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is one of the more expensive medical-grade systems on the market. It pairs an Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser in one head, which is why it can safely treat both pale and deep skin tones. Cheaper diode-only or IPL clinics can’t do that.

How full body laser hair removal works (and how many sessions you’ll need)

Laser hair removal targets the pigment in the hair shaft. The light travels down to the follicle, heats the stem cells responsible for growth, and disables them. Skin around the follicle isn’t damaged because the GentleMax Pro Plus pairs the laser pulse with a Dynamic Cooling Device that sprays a cryogen burst on the skin a fraction of a second before each pulse.

Hair grows in cycles, and only follicles in the active growth phase respond to the laser. That’s why one session won’t finish the job. You need 6 to 12 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to catch each follicle in its active phase.

Does it work on all skin types?

Yes. The GentleMax Pro Plus has two wavelengths in one head:

• Alexandrite (755 nm) for lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III)
• Nd:YAG (1064 nm) for medium and deep skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI)

Your tech will set wavelength, fluence, and pulse duration based on your skin and hair color at the consultation. If you’ve been told elsewhere that your skin is “too dark for laser,” that almost always means the clinic only owns a diode laser. Ours doesn’t have that limit.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe it as a warm rubber-band snap. Sensitive areas like the upper lip, the bikini line, and the lower abdomen feel sharper than the legs or arms. The cryogen cooling helps a lot. There’s no pain after the session ends — at most, a few hours of mild redness that looks like a sunburn.

How to prepare for your full body laser session

Shave the night before or the morning of. Don’t wax, pluck, or thread for at least four weeks before your appointment — the laser needs the follicle intact to work.

Stop retinols (Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene) on any treated facial area 5 to 7 days before the session. Skip the tanning bed and self-tanner for two weeks before. If you’ve been outside in real sun, mention it; we may want to wait.

Wear loose clothing to the appointment. Bring whatever you’d take to a long workout — water, a snack, headphones. We have a private room and a robe.

What to expect after a full body session

Some redness around the follicles, sometimes a little swelling. It looks like a mild sunburn and fades in a few hours, occasionally a day. The treated hairs don’t fall out immediately — they push out of the follicle over the next 1 to 3 weeks, which can look like the hair is growing back. It isn’t. It’s the body shedding dead hair.

For the first 24 to 72 hours, skip:

• Hot showers, saunas, jacuzzis, steam rooms
• Heavy cardio that leaves you sweaty
• Sun on the treated skin (sunscreen is required if you’re going outside)
