How do you take care of your skin after laser hair removal?

After you get your laser hair removal treatment, your skin will be sensitive for a while and it will need to heal properly and to avoid irritation. There are a few things you can do to help it heal better:

  • Soothe the skin – It’s highly possible that right after your treatment your skin might be red and swelling. You can apply a cool compress or a clean washcloth soaked in cold water to your treated area for shop periods of time. Another option would be an ice pack wrapped in a towel.
  • Moisturize – The laser treatment will dry out your skin, so make sure you keep it hydrated. Most people use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer throughout the day and after taking shower. Aloe vera gel is a popular choice for its calming properties.
  • Sun protectionLaser hair removal will make your skin extra sensitive to the sun. Avoid sun exposure for at least a few weeks after your treatment. Wear sunscreen with SPF 50 and zinc oxide when going outside.
  • Avoid irritants – Another important thing to do is to avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, and steam rooms for a few days after your laser hair removal treatment. Harsh soaps, fragrance, and exfoliating products should also be avoided on the treated area to stop the skin irritation.
  • Let your skin breathe – Wear loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics like cotton to avoid friction on the treated area.
  • Don’t pick – If you see any scars or ingrown hairs on your treated area, don’t pick them. Picking will lead to scarring and infections.
